Beausoleil First Nation Real Estate
Around 1649, a massive influx of refugees fleeing the Huron-Iroquois wars came to settle on this island for a time, but eventually left due to a lack of food and sufficient shelter. Eventually, what would become the Beausoleil First Nations people settled here on a permanent basis. The few homes built on this island do not interfere with the day-to-day life of the Beausoleil Reservation and its inhabitants, but instead, creates a strong sense of a tight-knit community. Several attempts by the Beausoleil people to set up different outlets for income have most times yielded poor results (they once even tried to begin a charcoal operation, but a lack of interest prevented the idea from taking off). However, in the modern day, the Beausoleil people have made Christian Island their home by way of a decent fishing industry, as well as a ferry, named the Sandy Graham, that takes its passengers from Cedar Point (on the mainland) to Christian Island to engage in their fishing (and hunting, as a pheasant boom (another idea of the Beausoleil peoples) also provides hunting opportunities).
A place loaded to the brim with history and culture awaits you on Christian Island, located in beautiful Georgian Bay. Most of what can be found on this island pertains deeply to its history, and the few homes that surround the outskirts of this Native Reservation fit right in just fine. These homes generally range from family homes to eclectic bungalows.
As far as the island goes nowadays, living in one of the houses here is a very quiet affair, with little to no interruptions. If you are looking to head southward, to the big city of Toronto for a day or two, your best bet (after taking the ferry back to the mainland) would be to go to the Highway 6 (not too far from the ferry) and keep heading south (past the point where the highway becomes Highway 26), and head right into the city of Barrie. Upon getting to Barrie, you can catch the Highway 400 southward right into the city of Toronto.
Christian Island has one major school; an elementary school for the young kids to go to. Regarding a high school/secondary school, there are none in the immediate vicinity; however, there are a small handful of them in the nearby towns, like Penetanguishene. The island also has a medical clinic that can help with healthcare needs.
